Cafés are one of my favorite places to go to because I’m a sucker for coffee. I love discovering new coffee shops in town and trying out their great-tasting coffee. So, one of the perfect spots to spend my birthday last January was in a café. On the evening of my 26th year, I went to Central Perk and had a mini birthday celebration there.
All about Friends
Central Perk is included on my itinerary when I visited Singapore for the first time. It is an iconic coffee shop that recreates the American tv sitcom, Friends, as well as offers great coffee and delectable food. I may not be a fan of the series, nevertheless, I’d love to see what’s in it and know what its coffee tastes like.
Apparently, Central Perk SG was founded on November 26, 2016, by six Singaporean entrepreneurs through crowdfunding and support from investors. It is the only café outside of United States that’s officially licensed by Warner Bros. to replicate the coffee shop in New York. This Friends-themed café is exactly how it looks like from the series.
From the famous orange couch, where the main characters always hang out, to Monica’s kitchen to Chandler and Joey’s football table, fans will surely feel right at home. Also, re-runs of the sitcom are being shown in the café and there’s a small memorabilia store inside offering mugs, tote bags, shirts, and other Friends merchandise.
If you are a huge fan of Friends, this café is a must-visit when you are in Singapore. Definitely, you will enjoy being here, reliving the set of the series while drinking a cup of coffee. My cousin, Ate Toni, and I arrived at Central Perk first. We waited for her friends, Bobby and Mila, to come over. I also invited my friend, Ate Karen, to celebrate my birthday with me and catch up a bit since we weren’t able to see each other the last time she went back home.
We ordered Joey Salami Pizza, iced cappuccino, hot chocolate, latte, hot cappuccino, and my birthday cake was Mrs. Braversman’s Cheesecake. (My name’s misspelled, though. Huhu. But it’s totally fine, I’m used to it. Haha!)
Aside from the cozy ambiance of the café, its coffee tastes really good. The coffee blends are interestingly named after the casts— Monica Geller, Ross Geller, Rachel Green, Chandler Bing, Phoebe Buffay, and Joey Tribbiani. You can choose how your coffee would be: Espresso (S$4), Latte (S$8), Cappuccino (S$8), The One with Chocolate (S$8), The One with Matcha (S$8), or The One with Soy Milk (S$8). Honestly, I find their coffee and food quite pricey, but worth a try. I’d still recommend it, especially to all coffee lovers out there.
Your visit to this coffee shop won’t be complete without capturing its Instagram-worthy sections and replicas of props used in the series. Absolutely, you will enjoy your time in this spacious café, particularly those who have watched the hit sitcom. It lives up to the hype and it’s worth visiting.
Central Perk is an ideal place to hang out with your family or friends. Just like me, you can also celebrate your special occasions here. So, make sure to drop by at Central Perk at Central Mall once you are in Singapore.
It’s a Happy Birthday at Central Perk!
